The economic slump of the 1930s

By the 1930s, Britain was in the grip of an economic slump. 22% of the population was out of work and the government could no longer afford the dole payments. However, World War II solved the country鈥檚 unemployment crisis; once again, everyone was needed and rationing ensured everyone had the same amount to eat.
