Meeting my mother: Martin and Sandra
Martin was almost 60 when he discovered he wasn't quite who he thought he was. He tells daughter Sandra about how his mum gave him up at birth, and this well-kept secret was only revealed during a chance conversation with an old neighbour. His Irish Catholic mother was pregnant out of wedlock. In the tiny island community where she lived this would have caused a scandal, so she went to Glasgow and had Martin there. But she never stopped missing him, as he later discovered.
