The big kick off is finally here and Torquay United face a stern test as they have to make their longest journey of the season on the opening day – a trip to newly promoted Fleetwood Town playing their first ever game in the Football League. The Conference champions are one of the richest clubs in the division and are favourites to follow Stevenage and Crawley by going straight from the Conference to League One. At least Devon’s other two sides start their campaigns at home, Plymouth Argyle face Aldershot Town, who were the only team not to score against the Pilgrims last season, and Exeter City face Morecambe in a repeat of the 2007 Conference final.
