Earl Spencer's eulogy at the funeral of his sister, Diana

Earl Spencer's eulogy, delivered at the funeral of his sister, Diana, at Westminster Abbey on 6 September 1997. The now famous eulogy is where Earl Spencer gave voice to what the public were at the time feeling about Diana's death. He uses the eulogy to vilify the press and, to some extent, the Royal family, whilst at the same time saying a moving goodbye to his sister. It is interesting because it turns what is traditionally meant by eulogy - a great goodbye - into a vilification of those whom he felt had wronged his sister. It was made all the more poignant because some of those at whom he was directing the criticism were of course present at the funeral.
