Hitler annexes the Rhineland and Austria
Examining the calculated nature of Hitler's actions in the Rhineland and Austria, and how he used the preoccupation of Britain and France with the crisis in Abyssinia to act. There is a reconstruction of the Hossbach Memorandum, which asks whether he intended war by 1938 or was just prepared to take the risk. Hitler's bullying of Kurt Schuschnigg, the Austrian chancellor, is reconstructed, leading to the question of whether he would have acted without Austrian compliance.
