People's Democracy march in January 1969

People's Democracy was a radical group within the Civil Rights movement in Northern Ireland. In 1969 they organised a march from Belfast to Londonderry. As they approached their destination, they were attacked at Burntollet by gangs of men. These were mostly Loyalists. Radical activist Bernadette Devlin was one of the leading figures on the march and she recalls the events and the actions of the police in particular.
