British troops arrive to keep the peace in 1969

The events of 1969 unfold, showing the rising tide of violence. Catholic Nationalist rioters attacked the police. However they found themselves under attack in their communities as well. Violence spread from Londonderry to Belfast, with Loyalist gangs sometimes being supported by police and B Specials. Nationalist areas seemed extremely vulnerable. One of the critical developments in these events was the arrival of British troops to keep order. They were welcomed at first. However, this soon changed.
