In the news hour from 5pm, Eddie Maher has pleaded not guilty to stealing over 拢1m from a Securicor van in Felixstowe in 1993. The 57 year old was deported from the US in July after being arrested on firearms and immigration charges. James gets the latest from our reporter Richard Daniel.

The government is promising that any allegations of criminal misconduct by police and others following the 1989 Hillsborough disaster will be investigated swiftly. The Home Office says anyone found to have broken the law will be brought to justice. James has the latest, including comments from Suffolk Coastal MP Therese Coffey who went to school in Liverpool and from Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell who's also from the city.

The Royal College of Physicians is warning that hospitals in England could be on the brink of collapse because of an increase in the number of people being admitted. In a report, it says a dwindling number of specialist staff working out of hours and staff shortages in key emergency care departments are also putting a strain on services, with elderly patients particularly vulnerable. James has more.

In the first hour from 4pm, James speaks to the new lead singer of Led Zeppelin tribute band Whole Lotta Led ahead of their gig next Thursday.

After 6pm, the British man who discovered the bodies of four people who'd been shot dead in the French Alps last week has spoken for the first time about what happened. Saad al-Hilli was killed, along with his wife, mother-in-law and a cyclist. His two young daughters survived the attack. Brett Martin, a former RAF pilot, described to our reporter Tom Symonds what he saw at the scene.
