Rags to Riches

Episode 1 of 8

Lord Sugar begins his hunt for a Young Apprentice. The 12 candidates sift through other people's cast-offs, looking for items to customise and sell on at a profit.

Lord Sugar puts twelve tycoons of tomorrow, aged between 16 and 17, through their paces as they each compete to win a 拢25,000 fund to kick-start their business career.

The aspiring moguls span a broad range of backgrounds, from council estates to private schools. They include a fashion designer, a trainee accountant, an events promoter, young publisher of the year, an aspiring lawyer and a farmer's daughter.

Lord Sugar started in business at the same age and expects his prospects to be able to do the same. In a task reminiscent of his early forays into business in the rag trade, each team is presented with a ton of old discarded rags, which they must sort and clean before selling directly to members of the public in a battle to make the highest profit. As ever, the candidates will be under the strict scrutiny of Lord Sugar's aides Nick Hewer and Karren Brady.

Although the candidates will live in a lavish mansion, for some, it's their first time away from home, but for all it's the chance to experience the high-flying life they all dream of.

Their first task however is anything but glamorous, as they roll up their tailored sleeves and embark upon sifting through a mountain of other people's cast-offs in the search for something special. With cash from Lord Sugar to invest in cleaning and customizing, the rivalry is intense as the twelve challengers vie to impress the boss, some splashing out on grand designs, others opting for a budget approach. The decision of how to spend their money is theirs but only one factor will be considered in the first boardroom showdown - who has made the biggest profit on Lord Sugar's investment?

Eight weeks of hard graft with only one of them emerging triumphant. Lord Sugar's search for his next Young Apprentice is on...
