Mali and Oman
Pascale Harter introduces stories from correspondents around the world. In this edition: Mali and Oman.
Stories from Mali and Oman, presented by Pascale Harter.
An international intervention force is preparing to march into Mali to push back Islamic militants who've taken control of much of the country. A military coup toppled the country鈥檚 civilian government in March, and Tuareg separatists backed by al Qaeda linked fundamentalists seized control of the entire north of the country. The unrest has crushed the country鈥檚 tourism industry, and Afua Hirsch finds that Malians are also worried about more conflict ahead.
Also, a rare glimpse at the inner workings of a country that seldom makes the news: Oman. The protests of the Arab Spring petered out in this Gulf State. However, Matthew Teller found a thriving group of young people airing their views online. How long will be satisfied with their existing political system?
