Laura Ford's sculptures and concepts

Large-scale artist Laura Ford demonstrates how she creates her sculptures and what inspires her installations. She is influenced by surrealism and dream-like images and explains that her figures are like fantastical creatures. She demonstrates how a sculpture is made out of a steel skeleton, and highlights the importance of getting the measurements right. She covers the basic structure with newspaper to build up the body of the sculpture, and then covers the shape with plaster. This gives the body of the sculpture a very solid, realistic feel. She talks about her piece 'Head Thinkers', and how she used heavy stoneware to contrast with soft, cosy fabric.
