The European Parliament and the work of an MEP
Catherine Stihler, Member of the European Parliament for Scotland, explains the role of an MEP. She argues that there are some decisions, such as the environment, where countries need to work together. She also cites the EU's limits on mobile phone call charges in the European Union as an example of something that has helped teenagers. This is followed by a 'behind the scenes' look at how the European Parliament operates, including the work of interpreters, who have to translate debates simultaneously into 23 languages, and chefs, who have to cater to the tastes of 27 different countries.
