Sikhism in India
The origins, beliefs and practices of Sikhism are explored by Peter Owen-Jones. He visits an important Sikh festival at Nanded in India, explains the origins of Sikhism and discusses the conflict between Hinduism and Islam some 300 years ago. At the temple where Guru Gobind Singh was assassinated he joins worshippers honouring the institution of the Guru Granth Sahib as the living guru. Noting the display of weapons at the temple he comments on the martial prowess of the Sikhs and meets some Sikh Nihang warriors. He discusses key beliefs in the one God and the Sikh's rejection of caste.
