IT in the workplace - the Royal Botanic Gardens database
A look behind the scenes of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, where IT is used in many different ways. In the Princess of Wales Conservatory, the manager relies on climate control software to maintain appropriate climatic conditions in the ten different climate zones. One of his tasks is to update the database holding records of all the plants in the gardens. Over at the Herbarium, the Global Plants Initiative team scan and digitise all Kew's preserved plant specimens for a worldwide database.
