Children as domestic servants
What was life like as a domestic servant in Victorian Britain? From a young age, girls were taught skills that would help them in domestic service. For most, life as a maid was all they could expect. Servants were poorly paid but conditions were better than in the factories and mines. The work was not as dangerous and they had food and a place to live.
