Using near doubling to solve real life problems
A two step word problem illustrating commutativity is shown. In a radio quiz a puppet character is presented with the problem of finding the difference between the totals of two addition sums - 8+3 and 3+8 - in order to win a prize. He doesn't know how to do it so he calls out loud for help. El Nombre appears and runs through solving the problem in illustrated steps. The answer is revealed to be 11 in both cases because the numbers are the same - it is only the order of the addition which has changed.
