Using near doubling to solve real life problems
A husband and wife are panic-buying a really popular doll. An interviewer stops them and asks how many they have bought. One of them has bought 6 and the other has bought 7, but they don't know how to add 6+7. The interviewer suggests they double the 6 and then add 1 to their total. They do this and calculate the answer to be 13.
