Being part of a cheerleading team
Two of the best cheerleaders in the UK demonstrate their stunts, talk about their training and discuss being part of a team. Thirteen-year-old Petra is rated the best cheerleader in the country and twelve-year-old Melanie is the second best cheerleader in the UK. One is a 'base' and the other a 'flier'. The base needs to be really strong and must concentrate on the flier and be ready to catch her. A flier needs a tight body and confidence in the team. Good cheerleaders must be enthusiastic, dedicated and willing to practise. They need to build up stamina, strength and focus through physical conditioning and drills.
