Food chains on a farm
A look at a food chain on a farm that is based on a wheat crop. The wheat takes energy from the sun and turns it into a growing plant. Eventually it comes to seed and provides the wheat we use to make bread and to feed animals. There are many animals and insects living in a crop such as wheat. The food chain begins with small insects such as aphids, which are eaten by bigger insects such as ladybirds. These are in turn eaten by small birds, which are themselves sometimes caught and eaten by the bigger birds of prey such as peregrine falcons, kestrels and buzzards.
