In 1960 he was leading his own quintet playing the music to the film The Cool World. Jacques Loussier became famous for his version of the music for a cigar ad, but it was music that he’d been playing for years – adaptations of compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach with a solid jazz beat. There’s an example of one of those on the programme tonight.
