Local government - Rural services

The Highland Council in Scotland has just eight people living per square kilometre. Services have been decentralised so that a large area can be covered while limiting the distance people have to travel. Local service points have been set up across the authority to provide local advice and information about services. This has been achieved cost effectively by sharing the building with the tourist authority. In Ardross, a shared use community hall is able to cost effectively house a range of services.
