Emigration of Scottish fishermen to North America
Emigration from Scotland's fishing communities was high in the 1880s. Catches were poor and the Russian Revolution had caused the collapse of one of the most reliable markets for Scottish fish. Many families moved to North America, particularly the Great Lakes, to earn a living.
