The inspiration behind L.S. Lowry's work
L.S. Lowry is famous for painting factory scenes. However, later on in his life he began to paint other things that interested him such as unusual people. A curator of the Lowry gallery talks about his work and inspirations. The clip explains that despite all the new machinery and cars that were introduced during his lifetime, Lowry only ever painted the scenes from his youth. Pupils also learn that one of Lowry's passions was football and his painting 'Going to the Match' was a tribute to the game. It was sold at auction in 1999 to the Professional Footballers' Association for 拢1.9 million.
