What materials are planes made from?
The Bombardier Aerospace Company in Belfast produces fuselages for aeroplanes. A group of children visit the factory to learn about the manufacturing process. It begins with careful design work and depends on using the right kind of materials, such as aluminium, which is very light. The pupils find out that even paper strips when stuck together in a certain way can become very strong. It is important for designers to understand the qualities of the materials they use.
