Why are working class people much more likely to suffer ill health and die young than those in professional classes? (1988)
This programme looks at the various theories as to why working class people are much more likely to suffer ill health and die young than those in professional classes. These theories range from personal behaviour, poverty, deprivation, stress, social environment and (bizarrely) genes. It is filmed in Newcastle and Burnley and includes interviews with people living in the area. (1988)

Government statistics released in November 2007 show that the health divide mentioned in this programme still persisted. "In 2001-03, men aged 25-64 working in routine occupations (for example, bus drivers, refuse collectors) had a death rate 2.8 times higher than that of men working as large employers or higher managers".
