Bill Gates - one of the world's leading philanthropists - outlines his commitment to eradicating the debilitating disease, polio. In 2012, the total number of polio cases plunged for the first time in a decade from 650 in 2011 to less than 250.

India, long-regarded as the most difficult place to end polio, was declared polio-free and remains polio-free after two years. Now, there are only three countries in the world - Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria - where polio has never been stopped.

Speaking from the iconic Royal Institution in London, Bill Gates explains why he is personally committed to eradicating polio and why he believes that society must act quickly so that children are fully protected and countries are not re-infected.

Bill Gates talks through his journey of discovery about the power of vaccines and explains why he is devoting energy, money and influence to eradicating this disease from the planet, through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.
