It's six months before the fatal car crash and Kate, Rachel and Ashley are dancing happily at their end-of-school Prom, whilst Tom, Kate's boyfriend, seems to be setting up a surprise for her with his brother Brian.
Rachel is finally enjoying her evening and admits as much to her friends when her ex-boyfriend, David walks in with his date. Rachel is upset and storms off, followed by Ashley. Kate lingers only long enough to let David and the girlfriend know what she thinks of them before hurrying to console her friend.
