From Northern Ireland to Cambodia: Carson and Ashley

Carson and Ashley recall life in Cambodia and moving back to Northern Ireland.

Carson worked with those who had lost limbs as a result of injuries sustained in the NI troubles. As the troubles began to subside in the early 90's, he became increasingly aware of the landmine crisis in Cambodia. In 1993 he joined The Cambodian Trust, and he, wife Audrey and daughter Ashley moved to Phnom Penh. Carson was able to transfer many of the skills he aquired in Northern Ireland to his work with Cambodian landmine victims. Today he's Chief Executive of the Cambodian Trust. Ashley was eight when she moved to Cambodia with her mum and dad. Her parents adopted an eight month old Cambodian girl in May 1994 - Serey - who is now 17. Ashely moved back to Northern Ireland with her parents in 2002 and is now working for a large retailer near the County Down town of Banbridge. She's also just completed a 'Selta' course which will allow her to teach English as a Foreign Language. Carson returns to Asia 5 or 6 times a year - staying a month at a time and is just back from Burma where the Cambodian Trust are workiong with those who have lost limbs in that country.
