Restoring Mountsorrel's long forgotten railway
Five and a half years ago Steve Cramp was out on a Sunday afternoon having a walk when he stumbled across an ivy covered bridge over a hole in the ground just outside the village of Mountsorrel. Being inquisitive he wondered what it was for and thereby hangs a story of bloody minded determination to restore a long forgotten railway.
Most projects like this end just the way they started, as a dream. But this one hasn't. In fact with the help of a brave band of volunteers, local businesses and the local parish councils, by the end of the summer they're hoping to have trains running from Great Central railway all the way through to Mountsorrel. Something that hasn't happened for over a hundred years.
