By the mid 2000s, streaming technology had developed sufficiently to offer whole TV programmes online, and for them to be reliably viewed across the web in much of the UK. Designed by ´óÏó´«Ã½ developers as a simple way of catching up on missed programmes, without an additional fee to pay, the ´óÏó´«Ã½ iPlayer is a complement to conventional TV viewing.
