Drowned Village
Footage of a drowned village, allegedly a model created in the studio to recall the effects of the drowning of the village of Capel Celyn, near Bala in 1965. This village and the surrounding valley was flooded by Liverpool Council to build a reservoir at Tryweryn (despite huge protests in Wales). Recalls also the drowning of other villages in Wales to provide a reservoir - eg Llanwddyn under Lake Vyrnwy. In Capel Celyn the buildings were flattened before being drowned and the graveyard was moved to another area, so the footage is somewhat misleading. It is included here as the film elicits an emotional response in the viewer reflecting the feelings of ex-villagers in Capel Celyn and others, and therefore work as a stimulus for classroom discussion on this.
