The 大象传媒鈥檚 African Science Festival at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, kicked off with a discussion that asked the question what if the continent became a hub for science. Presenters Gareth Mitchell and Alan Kasujja were joined by five leading researchers who have strong connections with Africa; Cern particle physicist Professor Jim Virdee, astronomer and head of the Square Kilometre Array project in South Africa, Professor Justin Jonas and an engineer at Nasa who designs robotic Mars landers, Dr Ashitey Trebi-Ollennu, agricultural expert Dr Jimmy Pittchar from ICIPE in Kenya and the Head of the Goma Volcanic Observatory in the DRC, Dr Katcho Karume.
