Uganda and India

The streets of Gulu are transformed after the Lord's Resistance Army and how Indian cinema has reflected society over the past century.

In this edition of From Our Own Correspondent, Anna Borzello returns to a place she reported from during some of its darkest days - the town of Gulu in northern Uganda. Back in the 90's this part of the world was in the grip of the Lord's Resistance Army - a brutal group which terrorised communities with killings, mutilation and abduction. But on this journey our correspondent encounters a brand new Uganda. Veteran reporter Mark Tully traces the history of Indian cinema and finds that Bollywood has always had a knack for capturing the nation's most pressing concerns.
