The role of protein in a balanced diet
Foods such as meat, eggs, milk, soya and nuts are given as examples of those high in protein. Protein is described as being used to make new cells and repair damaged ones. It is also described as being needed to make enzymes for digesting food and antibodies to fight infection. The breakdown of protein during digestion and absorption into blood is mentioned.
