Election manifesto or suicide note?
In the 1983 general election, the unlikely figure of Michael Foot produced a manifesto that was regarded as so ill-considered and extreme that it was dubbed by a leading party member as 'the longest suicide note in history'. Gerald Kaufman and Neil Kinnock explain the origin of the document.
