Electroconvulsive Therapy

Electroconvulsive therapy or ECT has been practiced since the 1930s, but what is it? And how has it changed over time? Find out on Shrink Wrapped Sunday from 1200.

Coming up on Shrink Wrapped Sunday from midday, with Toby Friedner and consultant psychiatrist Dr Chetna Kang. Electroconvulsive therapy or as it is better known ECT.

It was first developed in the 1930s and its use was widespread - especially in the 50s.

Today it is used far less and no longer in the disturbing way shown in films like 'one flew over the cuckoo's nest.' But it is still controversial.

So what is ECT? Does it work? And how is it different from decades ago?

This week we'll hear from those who've had it and those who administer it.

And as usual we want to hear from you. Maybe you've had it yourself or know someone who has. Or perhaps you're just curious and want to ask a question about it.
