Jaswant Sidhu arrived in Birmingham in the 1950s with a passion for cinema. Together with his friends he set up the Eastern Film Society which organised screenings of Bollywood films across the Midlands.

His son Amarjit Sidhu remembers how as a boy his family would invite the Bollywood stars to attend premieres.

Many of the Bollywood film stars would also stay with his family in Birmingham.
