  • The Queen Mary was a regular visitor in Southampton dock
  • An SRN5 hovercraft capsized in the Solent
  • The Government announced deflationary measures including a 6-12 month wage freeze.
  • Pleasure Boat 'the Prince of Wales' sank in Cardigan Bay.
  • A pleasure steamer was holed & sank in Bridlington.
  • The Cavern Club was re opened in Liverpool.

  • Jack Brabham won the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch.
  • A plane crashed into Liverpool airport - the Cambrian Airways Viscount ran into the airport terminal building damaging the nose, starboard wing & two engines.

  • British Prime Minister Harold Wilson flew to Moscow to try to start peace negotiations about the Vietnam War

  • Live and Let Die - the latest James Bond film was premiered at The Gaumont in Southampton.
  • St Agatha's Church in Portsmouth was saved from demolition.
  • The International Bowls championship was taking place in Bournemouth.
  • The New Inn in Brighstone was renamed and reopened as The Three Bishops.
  • Southampton carnival wound its way through the streets of the city.
  • 24 men & 2 women appeared in court on charges relating to series of bank raids committed over a 4 year period to 1972.
  • Printers in Fleet Street were in dispute.
  • Home-made hovercraft from all over Britain took to the water in the national hovercraft championships in Kent.
  • The Flying Scotsman was back in Britain after a visit to the United States.
