Digestion in the mouth
In this clip the early stages of the human digestion process are shown. Food is initially physically broken down by the teeth in the mouth. Chewing increases the surface area of the food allowing the first chemical processes of digestion to occur. Saliva contains an enzyme which helps breaks the food down chemically so that large molecules can be turned into smaller ones that the body can absorb.
