The development of jazz
The development of jazz is explained with reference to styles such as ragtime, cakewalk and Harlem stride piano. The early development of jazz music is summarised from the late 1800s to the early 1900s with a range of musical examples from jazz musicians including Scott Joplin, Willie 'The Lion' Smith and Jools Holland. Some possible origins of the term 'jazz' are discussed.
