The Big Interview: Aki Nawaz
The Big Interview on the latest edition of Desi Nation was a singer and musician who has been in the industry for over thirty years. As the front man of Fundamental, he helped create a British-Pakistani amalgam of industrial, rap and punk.
He's no stranger to controversy, often sparking heated debate whether it be for comparing Osama Bin Laden to Che Guevara in 'Che Bin', or detailing the workings of a homemade bomb in 'Cookbook DIY'.
His music is in a category of its own, mixing Qawwali with hip-hop or sometimes controversially overlaying rock music with verses from the Quran. He is a defender of his art, quoted in the Guardian as saying: "I'll take all the blame. If they're going to lock anyone up they'll lock me up. I'll take the heat."
In this extract Aki Nawaz chats to presenter Raees Khan for the Desi Nation show on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Lancashire…
