The Darhad people of Mongolia (pt 1/2)
The Darhad valley of northern Mongolia is one of the most remote areas in the country. It is home to 10,000 people, most of whom are nomadic. They migrate south during the winter to milder climates. The Darhad live in tents called gers, which are warm, lightweight and quickly assembled. They are in touch with the modern world and have satellite television. The Darhad have herds consisting of horses, yaks, sheep and goats, which they need to protect from wolves.
