The Derry Fleadh

2013 it was a great year
When Fleadh cheoil na h脡ireann for the first time came here
In the City of Culture we revelled in style
When the Fleadh came to Derry on the banks of the Foyle

Half a million people came to listen and play
From New Zealand, Zimbabwe and the US of A
From Japan and Sri-Lanka and the Emerald Isle
When the Fleadh came to Derry on the banks of the Foyle

With competitions and sessions and free concerts galore
Street sessions, street markets you could not ask for more
And the locals delighted to forget all their toil
When the Fleadh came to Derry on the banks of the Foyle

And the PSNI they were all out in force
Running around talking Irish as a matter of course
Their band played a concert that impressed one and all
When the Fleadh came to Derry on the banks of the Foyle

There was music in Tinney's, The Oak Grove and The Park
And The Don it was humming till well after dark
In the AOH and The Phoenix there was crack, caint is ceol
When the Fleadh came to Derry on the banks of the Foyle

Now the dust it has settled and the streets are all bare
To our many new friends we must bid au revoir
As the days they grow shorter we can rest for a while
Till the Fleadh comes back to Derry on the banks of the Foyle
