German Austerity and a Tough New Language

German austerity and discontent and the trials of learning Danish

When economic trouble hits European countries, they look to one place: Germany. The driving force behind the euro and the export engine at the heart of the continent has the power to bail out its troubled neighbours. But as Angela Merkel heads into a new term as chancellor, ´óÏó´«Ã½ correspondent Steve Evans has found pockets of austerity inside Germany itself.

Also on the programme, Emma Thomas struggles to get to grips with Danish. One of her biggest problems is English – the Danes are so good at it, she is having trouble finding anywhere she can practise her new language skills.
