Is nuclear power a price worth paying?

Are plans to build a new nuclear power station in Somerset, a good or bad thing?

The Government has announced details of a deal to build Britain's first new nuclear power station in a generation. The site - at Hinkley Point in Somerset - will be developed by a consortium led by the French energy giant, EDF, and will include Chinese investment. It will take ten years to complete and cost 14 billion pounds - the upfront cost will be paid for by the private sector. In return EDF will be given a guaranteed price for its electricity - 92 pounds 50 for every megawatt hour of power which is around twice the current wholesale cost of electricity.
