Fledgling
Contemporary drama. On the face of it, Jo has a perfect family. But beneath the surface, she feels boring and invisible. That is, until she accidentally shoplifts.
Jo is happily married to policeman Steve, with two young children - on the face of it, the perfect family. But Steve is always distracted by his exciting job, and the kids are busy at school and no longer need Jo 24/7, leaving her with the housework and the weekly shop. Beneath the surface, Jo feels boring and invisible. That is, until she accidentally shoplifts.
Initially horrified, the fear of being caught gives her a rush that she hasn't felt in a long time. Over a few months, she gradually increases the amount (and value) of her shoplifting, developing a range of tricks to avoid detection until - inevitably - she is caught.
Taken to a police station, it all suddenly becomes horribly real: she is a criminal, and treated as such. Terrified that Steve will find out, Jo spends a long day in custody before being eventually released with a fine. Out of his mind with worry at her disappearance, Steve is relieved to have her back and willingly accepts the lie she tells him.
Jo delights in her newly attentive husband, and their marriage seems to be back on track - but how long will Jo be able to hide her secret?
