Charges Could Be Imposed On Child Maintenance Payments

The Government's revamp of the child support system is wrong say some Northants parents, particularly the imposition of charges when parents can't agree about payments.

When family break-up occurs, the Government thinks that more parents should negotiate financial support for their children between themselves.

So much so that it’s revamping the child support system and says when parents can’t agree, they will be charged for the new Child Maintenance Service stepping in to do it for them.

Reporter Anna Bartlett outlines the changes, and people in Corby and Northampton give their views.

Stuart talks to Janet Allbeson, Senior Policy Advisor at the charity "Gingerbread", and to Marie Gallacher, an Associate at the Northants Family Law Group.
