Richard the Third at the High Court

Richard the Third at the High Court and Where are we shopping this year... Leicester or further afield?

The row over where the remains of Richard the Third should be buried heads to the High Court.

A group claiming to be distant relatives of the last Plantagenet King is challenging a decision by the Ministry of Justice to grant a licence allowing the University of Leicester to dig up Richard's remains and determine where they're reinterred.

The Plantagenet Alliance - based in York - accuse the Ministry of failing to consult properly and follow due process before issuing that licence....an accusation the Ministry strenuously denies.

The Alliance has been granted a judicial review in the High Court - and this morning that hearing will get underway, with two High Court judges hearing evidence from all sides embroiled in this fight over Richard's remains.

Matthew Howarth is a partner in the law firm, Gordon's, which is representing the Plantagenet Alliance and he told 大象传媒 Radio Leicester his clients have a strong case.

In a statement, the Ministry of Justice has told 大象传媒 Radio Leicester:

"The exhumation licence was granted by the Ministry of Justice following due process. We are disappointed that permission was granted to the Plantagenet Alliance Limited to challenge it. We are defending our position at the judicial review hearing"

Meanwhile, the University of Leicester will also be presenting its case in court.

Also.. We're at that time of year where shops in every town and city across the country is desperate to lure customers through their doors to spend, spend, spend.

And this morning there's fresh signs that, locally, they're not doing a bad job.

A new survey is putting Leicester at 11th spot in a UK-wide league table of retail centres....exactly where it was in the last annual survey, whereas other cities including neighbouring Nottingham have dropped down a few places.

So Leicester's holding its ground! All good. And while it's doing well, not everyone in Leicestershire sees the city as a shopping mecca.
