In the rainforests of Malaysia, Bob Walker tracks elephants (while avoiding tigers, leeches and mosquitos) and hears how the once-friendly giants are increasingly coming into conflict with people. As agriculture expands and Malaysia's indigenous groups are encouraged to abandon nomadic life, land where the elephants can roam freely is ever more scarce. In some parts of the country, wild pachyderms have even been poisoned. What can be done to minimise the friction and save the species?

There seems little risk of the domestic chicken ever dying out, although (or perhaps because) it is the source of humankind's favourite meat. On a farm in Brittany, former vegetarian William Kremer kills his own hen for dinner and is moved to ponder the ethics of meat-eating.
