Pork, apple and cheddar burgers
Homemade burgers are easy to prepare, healthier and far more delicious than shop bought as you can make up your own exciting flavour combinations. Pork, apple and cheese are three ingredients which always work well together. Throw them together with a few herbs and you've got some seriously good burgers. Kids love the sweet flavour from the apple.

For the burgers (makes 5):
- 500g extra lean pork mince
- 1 dessert apple, grated
- 50g cheddar cheese, grated
- 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- 1 tablespoon dry breadcrumbs
- Salt & pepper to taste

For the wedges:
- 5 large baking potatoes
- 2 crushed garlic cloves (optional)
- 4 tablespoons sunflower oil
- Salt and pepper to taste

To serve:
- Bread rolls or ciabatta
- Salad
- Relish

To make the burgers:
1. Put the pork mince, apple, cheese and herbs in a large bowl and mix until well combined. Add the breadcrumbs, season with salt and pepper and mix again so the breadcrumbs are evenly distributed.

2. Split the mixture into 5 evenly sized balls and flatten to make a burger shape. Put on a plate, cover with clingfilm and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before cooking.

3. Grill or BBQ the burgers for 5-6 minutes on each side until cooked through.

To make the wedges (start when the burgers are chilling):
1. Preheat the oven to 220 C / gas mark 7.

2. Cut each potato into 8 wedges. Rinse the cut potatoes and dry them well in a clean tea towel. In a large bowl combine the garlic and sunflower oil. Toss the potato wedges in the garlic oil until they are all well coated. Place on lightly greased baking sheet skin side down. Season well and bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and crisp.

Serve the hot burgers on bread rolls or ciabatta with relish of your choice and salad if you like. Kids may prefer ketchup and peas instead.
